HORNBY ISLAND

Our team is pleased to be working with the Hornby Island Community Economic Enhancement Corporation (HICEEC) to prepare a formal Economic Development Strategy for Hornby Island. This project has been made possible with a funding contribution from the Island Coastal Economic Trust (ICET). So far, we have completed a total of four (4) Community Engagement sessions, two (2) in-person at the Hornby Island Community Hall, and two (2) by Zoom for those who wished to attend virtually or could not attend in-person.

While our larger in-person and Zoom gatherings are complete, we are still only part way through engaging with the community! We now have a live survey, and we will be continuing to take additional time to reach out to individuals and organizations in the community to gather specific priorities and encourage their participation in completing the survey.

We need your input! Your participation and feedback is critical to the success of the overall Economic Development Strategy, and your opinions will help shape the future of Hornby Island for the better.

MORE TO SAY? HAVEN'T ATTENDED ANY OF THE SESSIONS?

Our goal is to have all voices heard and provide as many opportunities for input as possible. If you attended a session and didn’t get to speak, if you have more to say on a certain subject, if you came up with a great idea after a session and want to share it, or if you couldn’t make it to any of the sessions, please use the box below to share your thoughts! You may share your name and contact information with us, or remain anonymous.

We are looking at each sector below with four (4) lenses: preserving (what do we like, and want to keep), eliminating (what is unimportant or maybe not working), accepting (what are the things we cannot change and must accept), and, most importantly, creating (what are the action items and ideas to support the particular sector of the local economy). This is similar to a SWOT analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats), so if that methodology resonates better with you, please use it! The broad sectors we are discussing are: Transportation, Infrastructure, Building Practices, Housing, Recreation & Programming, Environment, Green Energy, Health & Wellness, Land Use, Education, Social Support, Community Enterprises, Tourism & Hospitality, Agriculture, Arts & Culture, and Home-Based Businesses. Please consider all items that may fall under each sector when using the lenses or SWOT to provide your input.
